Shop Tools

Tools, tools, and more tools.  Tools are half of what a good workshop is all about -- having the right tool for the job.  The other half is knowing how to use them properly and safely, not to mention knowing what you need to do in the first place (smile).  In addition to several shelves full of hand-held power tools and hand tools, we have a few larger tools to help us do things right here at Starview Ranch.

The arc welder is primarily for tractor and implement repairs, but will also be used for wind projects.  The compound mitre saw has already seen a lot of action and will be seeing a whole lot more when we start building a shed for our trash cans, built-up beds for the garden, cabinets, shelves and other woodworking projects.  The bandsaw and router will also be used for our woodworking projects.

The grinding wheels have already been used to sharpen our chisels and clean up the edges of our flat-blade screwdrivers, which have been used for things other than driving screws.  We'll also be able to keep our mower and implement blades sharp and clean-edged.  Don has already had a couple of occassions where a drill press was needed, but he managed without one, very carefully and slowly.  So, for safety's sake, this is our newest tool.

Lincoln Weld-Pak 100 wire-feed arc welder.  It's a small, portable, 120 volt A/C unit that can handle sheet metal and mild steel up to 1/4" thick.

On the left is a freshly unpacked, and not yet assembled 8" table-top drill press.  Got around to assembling the drill press in May, but no new photo yet.  On the right is a 10" compound mitre saw -- VERY handy!

On the left is a small router and on the right is an ever-useful bench-top grinder.

This is an old Sears Craftsman bandsaw that our nephew Matthew found at a garage sale for $50 and then gave to us.  I'll be taking it apart, cleaning it and checking everything before using it.
